Tactical Puzzles
Each battle in Chess Heroes takes place on boards of all sizes, in many different locations, with each side given different pieces to use.
The end result is a "tactical puzzle" that often takes a few tries to figure out, and a few more tries to master.

Steady Progression
Chess Heroes takes the basic rules of chess as a starting point, then builds it out into a full-fledged, modern strategy game.
To help new players learn the game, new pieces and abilities are introduced one at a time.
This straightens out a traditionally steep learning curve.

Special Abilities
Special Abilities make their appearance in Act 2.
They give each piece a powerful, secondary action that requires the sacrifice of a Pawn to use.
For example:
- Rooks launch Pawns across the board
- Kings move as a Queen for one turn
- Bishops take control of enemy pieces!
|

|
Boss Battles
A unique Boss piece waits at the end of each stage!
Their amazing powers add a special twist to the game, and once you beat them, their hats are yours to wear!
|

|
Magic Spells
Magic Spells are introduced in Act 3.
They are cast with captured pieces, and powerful spells require more captures.
This allows for dramatic comebacks and overpowering victories!
Examples include:
- Enrage and move twice in a turn
- Upgrade to promote any Pawn
- Teleport pieces to any space!

Terrain Innovations
New types of board squares -- impassable and high -- add complexity to later scenarios.
It's also an excuse to fold in some fun animations, as you can see here!

A Gateway To Chess
Kids who have played Chess Heroes are eager to "graduate" to the "real game" of chess, and they come equipped with knowledge of piece movement and the ability to plan ahead.
So Chess Heroes comes with a traditional chess mode, where players can challenge friends or the computer!
